Oh deer, overkill in Wisconsin
The militarization of local law enforcement reached a new low this week with the senseless slaughter of Giggles the fawn. In a scene reminiscent of a SWAT team raiding a criminal cartel's headquarters, nine fully armed wildlife cops and four local sheriffs descended on an animal rescue farm in search of illegal contraband -- to wit, one tiny baby deer. What happened next defied logic.
“I said the deer is scheduled to go to the wildlife reserve the next day,” Schulze said.Granted, it apparently is illegal to harbor a wild animal in Wisconsin but they could have taken the poor little creature to the legal shelter themselves. Or fined Schulze and allowed him to transport it himself in the morning. Hard to see what was served by killing it. Fucking barbarians.
It was to go to a wildlife reserve in Illinois that allows the rehabilitation of deer. Schulze said agents corralled workers near the picnic area and then set out in search of the fawn.
“I was thinking in my mind they were going to take the deer and take it to a wildlife shelter, and here they come carrying the baby deer over their shoulder. She was in a body bag,” Schulze said. “I said, ‘Why did you do that?’ He said, ‘That’s our policy,’ and I said, ‘That’s one hell of a policy.’”

Nothing was served but the heartless law designed to protect wildlife by killing it.
Sounds like fodder for the government haters, but I suspect that they're the types who write laws like that in the first place or signed off without reading it or don't show up to vote because no well funded PACs were involved and no corporations were harmed.
If they find you with an alligator in Florida, or even find you feeding one, they kill the gator, but I've never heard of anyone being eaten by a fawn and alligators accustomed to people are very dangerous.
I understand why people shouldn't keep wild animals. Clearly alligators shouldn't be tamed, (not that my Dad wouldn't have done that given a chance) but it's not like this guy was trying to make a pet of this unfortunate fawn. These cops just killed it because they could. To show their authority. That mentality is taking over our LEOs. Not a good trend for those of us who care about saving civil society.
There have been so many "Cops gone wild" events, I kind of share the fear.
The weird thing is that if the thing had escaped and the cops shot it - or anyone shot it for that matter - someone would have gone to jail. Meanwhile, elsewhere deer are dying of starvation and disease because we have killed the predators and we don't allow hunting so as to protect "Bambi."
I have only three things to say: Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.
But really, no one seems to care about all the awful things that happen unless the TV tells us we have to make a fuss -- that it's a 'wake up call' or a 'turning point'
People should pay more attention to Pavlov.
Sometimes I despair for our future, but then again, did some TV viewing while I was offline of political history documentaries. It was a good reminder that we've always been fucked up in some ways and survived. So there's that.
