GOP scrambles to avoid passing its own bill - Updated

Too funny. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the "true" conservatives' alternate to Ryan's ridiculous budget plan but thanks to clever procedural ploy by the Democrats, the Republican House majority almost passed this toxic Tea Party budget bill:
The vote was on the Republican Study Committee's alternative budget -- a radical plan that annihilates the social contract in America by putting the GOP budget on steroids. Deeper tax cuts for the wealthy, more severe entitlement rollbacks.

Normally something like that would fail by a large bipartisan margin in either the House or the Senate. Conservative Republicans would vote for it, but it would be defeated by a coalition of Democrats and more moderate Republicans. But today that formula didn't hold. In an attempt to highlight deep divides in the Republican caucus. Dems switched their votes -- from "no" to "present."

Panic ensued. ...
Hmmm. Maybe the Democrats are finally learning how to play this game. Video here.

By the way, I'm hearing the House GOPers, having barely avoided that disaster, did pass Ryan's budget. Of course it will go nowhere, but it gives the Democrats plenty of ammunition for the next round. The 2012 campaign ads will now write themselves.

Update: It's official. Ryan's Roadmap to Ruin passed the House with no Democratic votes and only 4 GOP defections. "Republicans voting against the Ryan plan were Reps. Ron Paul of Texas, Walter Jones of North Carolina, David McKinley of West Virginia, and Denny Rehberg of Montana."

Also, the backstory on how Dems almost punk'd the GOPers on the RSC budget bill. They won't be able to use that trick again, but hoping it's a clear signal from the Dems that they won't be such easy targets on the upcoming debt ceiling fight.

Got a kick out of that one, as well as the Dems having to tell the wingnuts several times that what they were holding forth about was not true, the Ryan plan doesn't give everyone the same health care as Congress. Of course, they didn't actually read the bill.

Yes, it was quite a day on Capitol Hill. And frankly, I wonder I suspect if many of them, even if they did read it, have so little reading comprehension they wouldn't understand what it means. They just wait for the talking points...

Libby Spencer "the House GOPers, having barely avoided that disaster, did pass Ryan's budget. Of course it will go nowhere, but it gives the Democrats plenty of ammunition for the next round."

Once again its all about power and control for the 'dems eh Ms Spencer?

The country in on the path to fiscal ruin. You don't like Ryan's plan..fine. The Presidents plan has only a few specifics, the major one is the "tax the rich" re-election gambit. The rest of his plan is mostly the usual "hope" for future budget reductions. Platitudes for the true believers

Now your side has to do more than reject the House Budget proposal.

The nation needs a balanced budget sooner, not in two decades.

If/When the US defaults on its obligations, the "rich" you despise will get seriously hurt. The rest will be destroyed (fiscally)

I'm just back from Les Voiles de St. Barth and what a downer to be aground at the Detroit Pose-O-Rama. Oh Lord -- he thinks it's all because Libby hates the rich!

Do ya hate me Libby? Are we worried that they'll have to water the drinks at the Antigua Yacht Club if we have to pay three more percent above $250K and that'll collapse the economy?

And was he one of those calling me a commie for predicting this mess 8 years ago - insisting that everything was well and it was only "Liberals talking down the economy because they hate America? and smirking that tax cuts increase tax revenue?

Wanna balance the budget? Sure, let's do it the Eisenhower way, or are you going to tell me he was destroying the country? Wasn't he the last Republican to preside over a balanced budget - maybe the last Republican who didn't max out the charge card? Yeah, I know, this website, that website and page 476 of the official GOP excuse book.

We're in the boat because of unnecessary and stupidly conducted wars and tax cuts justified by a lie. They don't pay for themselves and if we had those trillions back we could afford all the things The Detroit Crybaby hates for reasons quite different from economics.

I suggest that it's all deliberate and a way to end policies they hate for religious reasons and other weird things they pass off as moral scruples because they feel sorry for themselves. They're choking the government on purpose and they know it.

Sailing in the Leeward Islands? What's fun about that?

OK, OK so it's fun watching the billionaires spending that money the Republicans insist is being used to create jobs in the US. And then there are those islands with more banks than residents where you can salt it away so the welfare moms and minority parasites won't get hold of it. It helps to have folks like TDC to support us that way.
