What's the matter with the media
There is no better illustration of why the major media is failing than this. Even as they mercilessly cut newsroom positions over the last year, decimating their ability to collect and analyze the news, "Top executives at the country’s largest media companies continued to reel in multimillion-dollar pay packages in 2009." Some of the top brass even got raises.
And to add insult to injury, some media corps saw profits rise. That's the corporatocracy for you. The big guys at the top make a fortune by stepping on the backs of the workers and cutting the quality of their product to the bare minimum possible in order to generate maximum profit. In a just world, with the crap they pass off on TV, not just in news but also in *entertainment* shows, the CEOs would be fired -- not rewarded with obscene salaries.
