Thank you Madam Speaker

When I grow up I want to be just as badass as Nancy Pelosi. Seriously, this bill would not have passed without her work and it could have been much worse. To the extent that this bill works at all, is largely because of her efforts. She makes me proud again, to say I'm a Democrat. She's brought some definition back into the party platform. I love this quote from her ABC interview.
"You strive for bipartisanship when you can. When you find your common ground, that's great. If you don't find your common ground, you have to stand your ground," she said.
Her response to the question about GOP whining was priceless too. She said, "Well, you know, some people will do anything for the insurance companies." And I love that it's the first woman Speaker of the House who turns out to be the most effective leader in decades. Via pwire

Absolutely, Libby. It's kind of weird and crypto-sexist that NARAL and NOW is screaming about the "deal" with Stoooopak, without once considering that Nancy Pelosi signed off on it, and was THE big part of making this happen. (BTW: Stupak only got a face-saving piece of paper that has no actual value.)

Nice NYT piece about the Obama-Pelosi partnership with the great quote that if we can't go through the gate, we'll climb over the wall, if not that then we'll pole vault over it, and if not that, then we'll parachute in. More spine than we've seen in a long time. Brava!

The exec order is pure theater as far as I can see. Guess I'm a terrible feminist for thinking it's wrong to make a huge deal out of it. Think it diminishes the argument when something seriously threatening happens. If we get crazed over every little thing, then people tend to write it off as just another complaint coming from hysterical activists. Bad PR AFAIC.
