Symbolic single payer vote

I would be more excited about a floor vote on single payer being promised here if it had a snowball's chance in hell of passing.
Seeking to dampen liberal anger about deals cut with centrists, Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) said House leaders have agreed to allow a floor vote on a government-run, single-payer system.

Legislation creating a single-payer system would be expected to lose, but would allow liberal members to record their support for the proposal. It will also be a tough vote for some Democrats who will be wary of upsetting the liberal base.
I guess there's something to said for having our Congresslizards on record but a sham vote won't bring health insurance reform. It's sort of like winning Miss Congeniality in a beauty pagent. On the other hand, we do have the whole month of August to harass encourage our representatives to vote for it. Wouldn't it be just awesome if they brought it to the floor expecting it to just be a symbolic gesture to placate the liberals and then it actually passed?

Dreamy. But the fact is most of the country still leans against socialized medicine, which is why the Rahm Democrats who won in conservative districts have their hands tied. Strongarming them will only help the GOP. So bring it on!

There is a difference between being uncomfortable with the pejorative term Republicans use for something that threatens their corporate letters of marque and being uncomfortable with the concept itself. You lost the last election in large part because a majority do in fact want exactly what you insist they don't want.

We've had government provided. taxpayer funded health care for a very long time and it's proven to work for those able to obtain it and to be efficient. We've also had a "system" that is able to make second class citizens out of tens of millions for no other purpose than to maximize profits and it's time we got that monkey off our backs.

You've been able to contaminate public opinion by tagging it with "socialism" like some adolescent with a spray can for a long time too, but it's not working as well as it used to, is it?

But hey - keep on screaming socialism! whenever you like, it only erodes your scummy little charade further.

I don't want my options curtailed and my life shortened because some CEO needs a new prop for his yacht -- and that's not going to change because some two-bit huckster thinks he can baffle the rubes by waving pictures of Karl Marx.

Fogg, you're on fire today. Thanks for the second time for an eloquent troll takedown.

You're welcome. Of course it doesn't really do any good.

No way to crack through the cognitive dissonance. But I suppose it doesn't hurt to try sometimes.
