Shrunken Republicans
As I said below, I don't think Specter's shift is going to make any appreciable difference in the power structure of the Senate, but Steve Benen makes a good point on the larger message it conveys about the GOP generally. “On the national level of the Republican Party, we haven’t certainly heard warm, encouraging words about how they view moderates, either you are with us or against us,” Ms. Snowe said. She said national Republican leaders were not grasping that “political diversity makes a party stronger and ultimately we are heading to having the smallest political tent in history for any political party the way things are unfolding.”Really. At this rate, they won't need anything larger than a pup tent to hold the faithful. Much, much, much more at Memeorandum.

It's not surprising that the Republican party is now mostly homophobes, bigots and blind fools. They spent the last eight years tailoring a message that attracts these people.
This was Rove's big plan and it worked for many years. Thankfully that demo keeps shrinking. The problem is the less relevant they become, the more dangerous I think. I'm more worried about the far fringe paranoids of that crowd than I am of terrorists.

Maybe we could trade Joe Lieberman for Olypia Snowe and Susan Collins? BTW, I love to hear Collins speak.
LOL you two. And DLB, I think we could trade Arlen and Holy Joe for Homer and Marge Simpson and consider it a trade up.
