America's worst sheriff
I'm clearing out the inbox and here's a worthy point and click activism for today. This is about the Arizona sheriff who is famous for making the inmates march through town wearing only pink underwear and serving spoiled food, among a number of other egregious mistreatments of prisoners. According to the email, he isn't doing his job either:

As Sheriff, it's been Joe Arpaio's job to keep Maricopa County safe from crime. But Joe Arpaio has 40,000 outstanding felony warrants rotting on his desk , and violent crimes have soared under his watch. For years he's sought publicity by ridiculing inmates. Now, he's rounding up immigrant detainees and marching them through town to a separate "tent city," complete with electric fences, to allegedly "make room for more."Arpaio is the kind of sadistic thug that needs to be removed from any position of authority. I don't know what good it does to sign if you don't live in Arizona, but it couldn't hurt and it only takes a few seconds to do it. Sign if only to let Holder know that we want people like this to be held accountable.
Instead of prosecuting felons, Joe spends his time racking up publicity and recruiting "posses" to sweep low-crime, Latino neighborhoods. He stops people for "driving while brown."

Arpaio, an elected official, is enormously popular here despite the fact that inmate and other lawsuits against him have cost Maricopa County taxpayers over $40 million over the past few years.
He's incorrigible, and I think he's quite likely a psychopath. I've never liked him.

I've known about him for years and I'm sure he's a psychopath. I can't understand why the voters haven't kicked him out. Is the whole county filled with wingnuts or something?
You can get a feel for Arpaio simply by the fact that he thinks the perfect vehicle for a Christmas parade is a tank with lights strung around it.
You can almost hear "Prince of Peace, my ass!" when he drives by.
I'm sorry for the sane people who live in his district.
I feel sorry for sane people everywhere.

Arpaio's deputies allowed a convicted child rapist to escape MCSO custody at the county courthouse last week.
There was an article at azcentral.com, wish I could find it... Arpaio's chief deputy, Tom Hendershott, had a meltdown over anybody questioning the job they're doing.

"I smell some politics involved in this," Arpaio said of the consultants. "If they're not happy with the service, maybe they can hold the Board of Supervisors in contempt for not giving us the money for hiring the necessary deputies."
The sheriff's chief deputy, Dave Hendershott, said the consultants met with the head of court security.
"The bottom line here is, it would appear that (the court's presiding) Judge (Barbara) Mundell is attempting to use the Cruz investigation as a means of criticizing the Sheriff's Office in some way shape or form," Hendershott said.
Joe Arpaio - only one child rapist allowed to escape so far this year! What a guy!
