Repeat Child Rapist Executed, finally

expatbrian

From the LA Times
MIAMI -- Convicted child rapist and murderer Mark Dean Schwab was put to death Tuesday at Florida State Prison, the state's first execution since a botched lethal injection 18 months ago raised concern that a condemned man had endured a "cruel and unusual" ordeal.

Schwab, 39, was executed for the rape and murder of 11-year-old Junny Rios-Martinez of Cocoa. He killed the boy in April 1991, just a month after early release from a previous prison term for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy.
Anyone care to comment on why this maniac was let out of prison after the first one? Who made the decision that his time was long enough? Who decided he was "rehabilitated"? Why do we have a law that permits a child rapist to ever be let loose on society again?

That's the real question. I don't have an answer of course, but with out prisons overloaded with dope smokers and pathetic pain pill addicts, we might have less pressure to release prisoners to make more room.

This guy fooled us twice and shame on us.

Guys, I know you are not proponents of capital punishment, but this is one evil bastard that's not going to get the chance to do it again. Most of these criminals are like demented animals. There is no "human" left in them; if there ever was any to start with.

I don't support Capital punishment at all, but it's not because I wouldn't strangle the bastard myself. It's more because I would.

I am not opposed to capital punishment given certain conditions and this asshole meets every one of them. But put to death or prison for life is not the issue. The issue is the revolving prison door for offenders who should instead be on a one way street.

I'm reminded of another animal, some years back, who got out of prison for some horrendous crime, only to kidnap a girl and chop her arms off. I think that was down south somewhere. Perhaps you can recall, Fogg.

And you're right of course. If we didn't use up cell space for every black kid that gets caught with a crack pipe we might just have room to keep incarcerated the largely white male population who are kidnapping, raping and murdering children.

In Singapore, this guy would have been hung a long time ago and this recent girl would be happily going on about her life.

I think the girl in question was named Klaas and it happened in California.

Her father has been an activist ever since.

I'm totally against capital punishment. I don't see how it solves anything to behave as barbarically as the perp. But I do agree that guys like this should never be let out of jail in the first place and Fogg is right. This is directly tied to the war son some drugs. Those inmates are in on mandatory sentencing and crowd the jails so they let violent criminals out on early release to ease the overcrowding.

Well, here goes Lib & I half agreeing again. I work in a jail so I agree completely that our penal facilities are overwhelmed with none violent drug offenders, most of whom would be decent citizens if drugs were legalized. Poor blacks and Hispanics have a hugely disparate representation in jail. By and large they are poorly educated and depenedent on the legal aid system which is woefully inadequate. These people are spending much more time in jail just waiting for court dates; so long that, by the time they get to court, even if found guilty, they are being let out on time serves since it's usually more time than someone with a private attorney would have spent in jail. What a waste!
Capital punishment - the whole system needs revamping but I'm still in favor of removing monsters from our midst. Case in point; Ted Bundy may have looked like the boy next door, but there was nothing human about him. He was a killing machine. His last acts were escaping from a jail in CO, and did he go into hiding to let the heat cool down? No, he headed straight to FL where he committed mass murder in a chaotic final frenzy leaving no doubt as to the unhumaness of this creature. Imagine one of them was your child --
There are times when we as human beings must kill the bogey man to protect our children. I take no great delight when we have an execution in NC, but I feel no great remorse. Had the victims had a fighting chance and had killed their tormentors would you want to punish them? But 12 yo girls have no chance against grown men like the VT murder that has just come to light. I think of capital punishment as a way to balance the scales.

Fogg, We're both right. The bastard was Larry Singleton who bludgeoned, raped and then chopped off the arms of 15 year old Mary Vincent in California in 1978. He was given a mere 14 years and was actually paroled after half of that!

Californians were so outraged that no town would accept him as a resident and he spent his parole in a trailer on the grounds of San Quentin prison.

Once he was off parole he roamed around for a while and settled in Tampa, Florida in 1990. There, he murdered a prostitute in his own home and was finally sentenced to death in 1998. 3 years later he died of cancer.

So our justice system is such that you can serve 7 years after ruining a childs life, forever, raping and cutting her arms off.

This monster should have been at least put away forever.

I do respectfully disagree with Libby on this one. I think the death penalty has a place in the justice system. One thing we know for sure. Once someone is put to death, they are no longer a threat to anyone else. As long as they are alive, whether through escape, or a change in laws, they are a threat. And I don't really worry too much about the method of if they feel any pain. I only worry that we have to be sure we have the right person.
