Desperate not to get the torture cases thrown out

Regarding the six detainees charged by the US in relation to 9/11.
FBI and military interrogators who began work with the suspects in late 2006 called themselves the "Clean Team," and set as their goal collecting of virtually the same information the CIA had obtained from five of the six through duress at secret prisons.

To ensure that the data would not be tainted by allegations of torture or illegal coercion, the FBI and military team won the suspects' trust over the past 16 months by using time-tested rapport-building techniques, the officials said.

Take a minute to imagine how this reads if the interrogating power wasn't our country, but Iran, Russia, or Zimbabwe.

"After torturing the detainees in secret locations for months, the detainees were then moved to an official prison where they reconfessed their crimes....."

Hey Mike. It's so horrifying that we can make parallels between brutal regimes and our own. This is not the America I grew up in, you know.

The hell of it is these guys might be really be guilty but the non-torture confession came second so it will always be tainted.

Brian, I hate the word verify. Sometimes it takes me three tries to comment on my own damn blog, but if I turn it off we'll be inundated with spambots.

Thanks Brian.

Libby, I really have little doubt that they're probably guilty.

The torture is why they're trying them in the military tribunals. (Can't even call them courts, can we?)

This was always the damage (beyond the grotesqueness) that I saw in the shortsighted torture policies.

These people can't be held anywhere but a Guantanamo, so they'll have to be held in that illegal limbo forever.
