Gas tips that save dollars

By Libby

Erf. I'm just brain dead today. I stayed up way too late last night and couldn't sleep in this morning so I've been goofing around in comment sections and I'm reading email. I just got this that you may find useful, what with the price of gas these days. These tips come from a person who works in the gasoline industry.

Fill your tank in the early morning when ground temp is the coldest. The gas at the pump will be denser.

Don't use the fast mode on the nozzle auto trigger. You'll lose more gas to the vapor retrieval system.

Don't let the tank get more than half empty. Gas apparently evaporates quickly when there's a lot of air space in your tank.

Don't fill up if you see the delivery truck filling the underground tank. The process stirs up dirt that could get into your system.

Criminy! It's freaking cold here in Michigan so I guess it doesn't matter when we fill our tank! ;-)

Hey Kathy. I was thinking that first rule was kind of moot for northerners in the winter. Hope you're staying warm somehow.
