Republicans vote to stay in Iraq forever
Despite a couple of defections on either side, and co-dependent Joe Liberman doesn't count since he's a defacto Republican anyway, the GOP senators voted as a body to stay in Iraq with no strings attached to temper Bush's recklessness. The "binding Democratic-sponsored resolution that would have set a target date a little more than a year from now for the withdrawal of most U.S. combat troops from Iraq" was defeated. "Senators then approved by large margins two nonbinding resolutions that express support for the troops."
Keeping the troops forever locked into combat to support a failed policy is a hell of bad way to show your support if you ask me, but that appears to be the best they can do under the circumstances. The Dems just don't have the votes to pass anything without significant GOP defections from the party line.
Bob Geiger, (whose title I stole) has the definite post on this story and gives us the quote of the day from Harry Reid.

"Five years of war, the mission has changed. Saddam is gone. There were no weapons of mass destruction. The original mission no longer exists. Five years of war, 3,200 Americans killed, over 22,000 wounded, over $400 billion spent, and still no end in sight."Reid vows to keep bringing up more resolutions but a fat lot of good that will do. By the time they pass anything meaningful, Bush's term of office will be over. But at least the Democrats succeeded in getting the senators on record. It's now at least very clear who supports the failed occupation and who doesn't. The senators would do well to remember that Blogtopia has a long memory and this vote will come back to haunt them in 08.

Great posts! I wish you could promise me that this vote will come back to haunt them in '08. While Blogtopia's memory may be long and distinguished, the American people's is non-existent (I am certainly not telling you something you didn't already know) as is their common sense. I hope the information you are putting out there will help just one person wake up & think for him/her self.
Thanks for the encouragement LLL and I do promise it will haunt them. You have to remember that Leftopia only found their voice and their muscle in 06. We're only getting stronger.
