Bombs in London - The truth hurts

Another horrible mass bombing attributed to Al-Qaeda. The death toll appears to be between 30-40 and I've seen reports of up to 1000 injured. I've also seen reports that London is in chaos but I think gridlock would be more appropriate - as might be expected when the mass transit in a major city shuts down. The footage I've seen on TV has shown orderly crowds with no sign of panic or even much shock. Londoners seems to be maintaining their usual stoicism and one doesn't notice much of the camaraderie among strangers that was apparent in NYC after the Towers fell. The main problem seems to be the roads have all turned into parking lots.

Meanwhile it didn't take long for the war bloggers to blame the liberals. It appears they are willing to go to any lengths to avoid admitting it's the ill-conceived occupation of Iraq that is the root cause of the rise in worldwide terrorism, including shooting the messenger.

Hypocrisy, thy name is war bloggers who diss Galloway for speaking out, while making their own political hay on this tragedy.

Goddess forgive my cynicism, and God rest the dead in London, but my gut reaction when I heard the news was, what a perfect CIA black-ops job. You have to admit the timing is pretty bloody convenient. Bush's approval rating is at an all time low, support for the occupation diminishes daily, the press is zealously covering the Plame case again, which suddenly promises to implicate members of the White House inner circle in treasonous acts and two days ago, 250,000 people peaceably assembled in London to demonstrate against US policy. Blair is having his own problems with the Downing Street Minutes and diminishing popular support at home.

Think about what both Bush and Blair stand to gain here. If I was a terrorist smart enough to bomb a subway system, I wouldn't do something so stupid as to time it so it would help my opponents get out of the hot seats of their own making. On the other hand, if I was a CIA agent pretending to be Al-Qaeda - I certainly would.

Let's see, it is fully possible that it was organized in relationship to the Israeli economic forum; it's also possible that, since the islamacists consider the Iraq war to be a great recruitment incentive and the fact they know the current low ratings (and how BushCo would respond), an additional attack would keep things going.

I doubt a conspiracy by anyone other than some super-religious nuts... and by that I don't mean GWB, et al. Of course, a lot of terrorism is blamed on religion when it is really perpetrated by people who defy all general religious principles or twist them into something self-serving. Again, I'm not talking about... well, you get the idea.

Wow, no one gets it. This is the continuing war between religious fanatics and the modern world.
This same war is going on in this country by our Christian Taleban fighting their culture war and attempting to push their beliefs down our collective throats. Our fanatics haven't gotten to bombs yet, but they will.
The key point to these attacks is not what they do to us, but how we react.
On 9-11 we acted like cowards looking for security and forsaking our freedoms. This led to a war that did not need to be fought. The terrorists used Mr. Bush's little war to recruit jihadists and raise money from oil rich Saudis.
We need to fight terrorists, live our lives in freedom and thumb our nose at the bastards. Their pitiful little bombs will not stop us from acting and living the way we choose.
Unfortunately our war loving government will promise security by forsaking liberty. That is the road to tyranny.

I don't know what to think really,i mean the first time i heard of it the first thing that came on my mind actually (i'm sorry peepz)was that this whole thing was a conspiracie. It's just a little to strange. We don't trust Blair and Bush no more, they are litarly on fire with there lies, and there is aq who commits an attack. That really don't makes sense!why would they do an attack why now?Is it because of the v8,well why did'nt they do it on the concert exuse me for all of this but it's all to convenient for Bush and for Blair right now it does not make sense. I'm truelly sorry for your loss England.peace the antilles.(curacao)

Hoorah for you for writing about your gut feelings! These instincts will likely pan out to be more than just a gut feeling in days to come. What the heck did Al-Quaidi originally have to do with the whole Iraq mess anyway?
Peace to all and in particular to those who report with honesty and integrity in the face of corruption and hypocrisy.

First of all, Israeli Embassy was notified of the bombing attack. But the ordinarily Londoners were not told. Israelis' lives were apparently dearer than the Londoners'.

Secondly, according to Ken's email, they apparently did the same as what was done in 911. The Ken's email is as follows:

Latest Statement by London's Mayor.

Mayor of London

www.london.gov.uk Thursday 7 July 2005 IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement by Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London
This was a cowardly attack, which has resulted in injury and loss of life. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been injured, or lost loved ones. I want to thank the emergency services for the way they have responded.
Following the al-Qaeda attacks on September 11th in America we conducted a series of exercises in London in order to be prepared for just such an attack. One of the exercises undertaken by the government, my office and the emergency and security services was based on the possibility of multiple explosions on the transport system during the Friday rush hour. The plan that came out of that exercise is being executed today, with remarkable efficiency and courage, and I praise those staff who are involved.
I'd like to thank Londoners for the calm way in which they have responded to this cowardly attack and echo the advice of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair - do everything possible to assist the police and take the advice of the police about getting home today.
I have no doubt whatsoever that this is a terrorist attack. We did hope in the first few minutes after hearing about the events on the Underground that it might simply be a maintenance tragedy. That was not the case. I have been able to stay in touch through the very excellent communications that were established for the eventuality that I might be out of the city at the time of a terrorist attack and they have worked with remarkable effectiveness. I will be in continual contact until I am back in London.
I want to say one thing specifically to the world today. This was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful. It was not aimed at Presidents or Prime Ministers. It was aimed at ordinary, working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian, Hindu and Jew, young and old. It was an indiscriminate attempt to slaughter, irrespective of any considerations for age, for class, for religion, or whatever.
That isn't an ideology, it isn't even a perverted faith - it is just an indiscriminate attempt at mass murder and we know what the objective is. They seek to divide Londoners. They seek to turn Londoners against each other. I said yesterday to the International Olympic Committee, that the city of London is the greatest in the world, because everybody lives side by side in harmony. Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack. They will stand together in solidarity alongside those who have been injured and those who have been bereaved and that is why I'm proud to be the mayor of that city.
Finally, I wish to speak directly to those who came to London today to take life.
I know that you personally do not fear giving up your own life in order to take others - that is why you are so dangerous. But I know you fear that you may fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society and I can show you why you will fail.
In the days that follow look at our airports, look at our sea ports and look at our railway stations and, even after your cowardly attack, you will see that people from the rest of Britain, people from around the world will arrive in London to become Londoners and to fulfil their dreams and achieve their potential.
They choose to come to London, as so many have come before because they come to be free, they come to live the life they choose, they come to be able to be themselves. They flee you because you tell them how they should live. They don't want that and nothing you do, however many of us you kill, will stop that flight to our city where freedom is strong and where people can live in harmony with one another. Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail. ENDS
