Going to their heads

This isn't something I expected to say today. Dana Milbank did good and you should read his column. No, really:
Brewer's mindlessness about headlessness is just one of the immigration falsehoods being spread by Arizona politicians. Border violence on the rise? Phoenix becoming the world's No. 2 kidnapping capital? Illegal immigrants responsible for most police killings? The majority of those crossing the border are drug mules? All wrong.
It gets even better as it goes on. Of course, it will never penetrate the public discourse as long as the star boys like Jake Tapper and Chuck Todd ignore it. But good for Dana for bringing it up. Wish he would write like that every day.

Thanks for reading this for me, I just will not give hits to WaPo, where the hits are Hyatt's idea of his popularity. Fiction is definitely the way that myths against immigration are spread. When the whole ideology has been exposed as a lie, that's the only space left to the right wing.

Ruth, the astounding part is I posted this link at DetNews too with a bit more commentary and more quotes. Didn't fracture the myth, not a little bit with the TP cons there. They segued right into "it's not racist because the illegals are such a big problem" argument with no apparent comprehension of the facts just presented. Even worse, one of the more sane commenters pitched for national ID card to "solve" the problem.

I've quite given up on the 23%ers. No getting through to them. But I remind myself that it's still worth posting because those dozen critics are not the only readers and I do get an occassional email from someone who cares enough to track me down to thank me for posting. So there's that.

Believe what you want.

"In January 2010, Congressman Rob Bishop visited our ranch here in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. During that visit, I related to him an incident that occurred on June 27, 2008, in one of our pastures west of the ranch house.

"On that day, one of our ranch hands was working horseback and discovered a human head near a trail believed to be used by drug and alien smugglers.

"Although the head was missing the lower jaw, it was immediately apparent that much of the mass and flesh of the head was still present. The cowboy searched the area in hopes of finding the remainder of the body to no avail.

"I would be happy to talk to Dana Milbank and, in fact, I would like to invite him to a picnic. We could walk a mile or so up Peck Canyon from the Atascosa Ranch headquarters past where the body was found, which is being autopsied to the place where five (or more) innocent Mexicans (who claim they had broken only a few Federal laws) were fired on about two weeks ago by gentlemen in black camo shooting AK 47’s, he said.

Lowell added that "there’s been one other shooting incident seven days ago in about the same place. We will supply the weenies and potato salad but Dana will have to walk about 200 yards ahead."

Of course, no doubt there will be headless bodies turning up to bolster the militia POV. Squick.

Ruth, I'm pretty sure Broc is one of my DetNews *fans* who followed me home. In any event, that one beheading is the only documented case where illegal immigration MIGHT be involved. As Steven put it as Outside the Beltway, it's hardly a crime wave and OTB is not a lefty blog. He made another good point too, he wonders why, no matter what you think about the immigration thing, would anyone accept being lied to, much less defend the lies. Good Q.

There was the incident June 27, 2008, the incident 7 days ago, an incident, according to the associated press from lexis nexis,

(PHOENIX) State police, members of Phoenix police and federal immigration agents busted two suspected drop houses in west Phoenix rescuing 13 people and arresting 15 suspected smugglers.

Police began moving on one drop house Sunday after ransom demands were issued.

A woman said captors held her boyfriend since June 26th and threatened to beat and behead him if they weren’t paid a $3,000 ransom.

Police found the drop house and arrested seven suspected human smugglers Monday. A second west Phoenix drop house found Monday led to 15 people.

Dana Milibank is a liar and the Washington Post and the drones here ought to be ashamed of themselves for willfully pretending everything is rainbows and cherries.

Broc, you really should expand your reading beyond Rev Moon's rag and Hot Air. A seven day old article and Capt Ed couldn't find a link to the original story? And wow, one actual beheading that MIGHT be tied to immigration and one THREAT to behead that didn't happen in two years is all Ed could find on Nexis? What a crime wave.

Reminds me of all those cons who threatened to Go Galt. How many of them actually did it? Maybe you could check Lexis for that.

I'm amused... or is that you?
