Er, Um, What He meant to say was...

expatbrian

I'm just bursting at the seams with anticipation of more and better evidence that Mars may have actually supported life at sometime in its past.

Nasa scientists are "flabbergasted" at the current results from the probe which have found not only evidence of water (ice) but that the soil contains the necessary ingredients to support plant growth.
"It is the type of soil you would probably have in your back yard, you know, alkaline. You might be able to grow asparagus in it really well. ... It is very exciting for us."
As I write this, the scholars and propogandists at the Vatican are busy as little bees trying to rewrite reinterpret the scriptures (in which God never mentions any other planets at all, let alone life on them) to cover their holy arses.
"Let's see...we can say that a Bible's "day" can really mean years and the Bible's "Earth" can really mean the whole universe! Yeah, that's it! that's the ticket! That's our story and we're stickin' to it."
It is a time of almost orgasmic joy and glee for me because I may actually see the truth be told, once and for all, in my lifetime.

The funny thing is that the Vatican is far more open minded these days than the more American sects. Jerome Wolf, the 16th century astronomer, said that "No attack on Christianity is more dangerous than the infinite size and depth of the universe."

I would have to add age as well, but Wolf had no idea just how huge the universe is or how old. Even so, the arguments being used by religion today were blown away hundreds of years ago.

But really we didn't need life on Mars or even Mars itself to make the Biblical story ridiculous. Does anyone really think the Earth preceded the sun, or that the sun was the first light in the universe or that the creation of our planet had to do with separating water from land?

And where's that pesky "firmament" that the stars are glued to? Where's that heaven you can walk into directly from a mud brick tower? Where are the "Waters beneath the [flat] Earth" Genesis talks about?

It all illustrates, to me, the extreme insanity that passes for "faith" in the religious mind.

I'm loving this Mars stuff myself. I also saw something about twin earths orbiting a star outside our galaxy. Wish I had saved the link.
