Vet News

expatbrian

One thing we can all do to support our troops and veterans is to stay knowledgeable on the issues that affect them the most. There is a lot going on with vets that rarely if ever make it into the MSM and the result is that the vets suffer through lack of exposure of the often terrible way they are treated and ridiculous obstacles they are expected to overcome.

This is largely due to a president who seems to do everything he can to avoid spending the money needed to solve these problems. Bush has denied expanded education benefits because he says "it would encourage military men and women to end their military careers early to enroll in school".

Is that a load of lying crap or what! Almost without exception, if you ask vets why they decided to join the military, they will include the available education benefits. To limit or reduce those benefits will not give you more troops. It will make fewer volunteer in the first place. A wise President, who was also a veteran of multiple wars, once said:

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they preceive the veterans of earlier wars were Treated and Appreciated by their nation."
Anyway, I urge you to subscribe to the email notices sent out daily by Veterans for Common Sense, who stay up on all legal and congressional matters affecting troops and veterans. Its free, will keep you informed and may even provide some solid fodder for future posts. Below are a few recent articles, most of which you have never seen before, I'm sure.

18 year PFC Monica Brown becomes only the second female since WWII to be awarded the Silver Star in combat. Then, due to the sexist, archaic military rules, she is reassigned.

One in three military women will be raped by military men and some will be murdered to cover it up. I'm sure the brass will blame it on the women themselves.

In the last 3 months, at just the VA Hospital in Spokane, seven returned vets have committed suicide. Jeez! Is this a VA hospital or Dachau!

5,000 vets called the VA suicide prevention hotline last month alone. But most get no treatment and others die waiting for the inadequate, understaffed VA to catch up.

Just like the brown nosing Bushbabies they are, the VA is still refusing to cooperate with Congress' investigation into veteran suicide.

Congress is overwhelmed with Veteran related bills, but most don't really do a thing for veterans. In fact some do more harm than good.

PTSD and war wounded vets find college an especially challenging process. But some schools go out of their way to make our vets comfortable. Be nice if the VA and our traitorous president, who has denied increased education benefits, would do the same.

Closing arguments today in the lawsuit alleging grossly inadequate care by the VA. The government still trying to cover its ass. No surprise there.

Pressure forces VA to change its policy on helping vets register to vote. It's a first step but not nearly enough. And to do it right would require very little if any resources.

This morning I received another one of those tear jerking stories about people clapping in an airport; designed to vilify those unpatriotic, hook-nosed Liberals who disrespect the troops, so I'm just hopping mad enough to be happy to read this post.

God damn people who support the abuse of other people out of fear, greed and the warm feeling of belonging they get as war spectators.

God damn people who call it patriotism

God damn George Bush and the bastards who allow him to stay in office.

I'm glad to see some progress on the voting issue. As for the rest, I have little hope that the Beltway lizards will ever do the right thing for our troops.
